Doonkuna is a premium cool climate vineyard. The vineyard has a gently sloping northerly aspect. This location allows for extended sunlight over the growing season resulting in a well developed depth of flavour.
The grapes are sourced from the "House Block" vineyard. The vines were first planted in 1971 and are now showing mature fruit characteristics.
The grapes are hand picked the fermented in small batch lots with hand plunging. The resulting wine is the aged in French oak for 15 months.
This wine has vibrant hues - the bouquet is a classic cabernet with spice and menthol. The palate is rich with sweet dark bramble fruit and a central theme of spices. Soft tannins help blance the acidity and add length to the finish.
